The blockwork for the fish tanks took about two weeks. We built with two layer…
Sieve pre filter project for outdoor tanks and pond
The water looks clean before i made a trial liter but i was surprised how much fine green algae there was in the water.
I used a 75 micron stainless steel mesh laid at an angle inside a bucket the amount of algae that it caught warranted cleaning once a week, this meant a spray with the hose no great deal.
So overall it was a good addition but I will have to go back to the drawing board. There is a relationship between the slope of the sieve and the amount of water flow, if to shallow the sieve blocks with fine particles if to steep the water rushes over the sieve and not falling through. As the water flow is pretty constant im going to have to play with the incline and its length.
Out in Thailand its winter now so temperatures drop at night this means that the fine particles are not suspended in the water column and the algae will die off so i will have to keep that in mind.
I want to make this as efficient as possible i’ve got five pairs of drum filters around the place looking after the various ponds and tanks,so i want to role out something easy and effective.
