I would ask you to think twice before putting water iris into pond. And yes…
Pond water now clear
It’s taken a while trying to keep everything simple, I think there are two approaches, either you keep water or you keep fish.
I decided to keep fish, keeping water can drive you made. In the wild water parameters go up and down all the time.
I have one exception
If you can focus on water freshness water quality will follow, I am in favour of having a trickle system. In the wild fish live longer but their water parameters are constantly changing all the time, water freshness is the key washing away any buildup of potential problems then alongside this you have the natural environment quietly taking care of everything. So the challenge is to create this natural environment the more we stray away from this the more problems we will have.
Don’t over clean the water
But just like our children if we sanitize their life to much they don’t toughen up and they develop all kinds of ailments. Living in Thailand forces you to look for simple solutions, you could argue that there is to much technology in the fish keeping hobby.
So having said all this what filter system do i use?
I use plastic bins these come in various sizes, i put them in tandem one acting as a pre filter. For the medium i like most people got sucked in by all the choices , but for me the best solution is to use shade netting.
Its lightweight you can add more to your stem with ease , try not to clean these out to often remember you want all that bacteria so with that in mind that’s why i have to tanks I can clean one at a time.
Now i have added a sieve filter to the top of the first tank this is still in its design stage but i am very surprised how much algae and waste it collects this normally is out of site and just feeds into the bottom of the tank.
Given me food for thought many thanks.
