Mountain bike saddle height

The importance of saddle height

Saddle height adjustment is very important.

When answering the question, “What size mountain bike do you want?”, what really matters is how the bike feels when you sit down and ride it.

The first thing to do in the shop or on a test ride is to adjust your saddle to the correct height. If you can’t get your saddle to a comfortable height, you may be riding the wrong size bike.

A rough approximation of maximum seat height for efficient pedaling is the pant hem measurement plus 13 cm (5 inches) from the center of the saddle to the center of the pedal. For a more precise workout, sit upright in the saddle with the cranks in a straight up/straight down position, keeping comfort and efficiency in mind.
