How Much Should I Spend On A Hardtail?

A well-equipped hardtail, like the Vitus Sentier, starts at around $1,100/pound. That said, there are plenty of cheaper options out there, too, but they’ll have older or base spec components and heavier bike weights.
Like any bike these days, the sky is almost the limit at the higher price point, but spending $2,500-3,000 per pound gets you a neatly organized aluminum model. Carbon frame bikes cost a bit more, and although there are many options around that price point, the parts that come with them won’t be of exactly the same quality.
