Best grilled cheese sandwich ever! In honor of National Grilled Cheese Sandwich Day, this was created (April 12). You’ll doubt your next grilled cheese sandwich after creating one with garlic butter, hot or light giardiniera, spinach, tomatoes, and 4 different Italian cheeses!

Ingredients

  • 8 slices of your favorite bread
  • 6 tablespoons butter, softened
  • 8 tablespoons coarse-grained mustard
  • 1 ¼ pounds Smithfield Ham slices
  • ¾ pound white Cheddar cheese, sliced
  • 1 cup whole berry cranberry sauce
  • 3 cups assorted salad greens

Directions

Preheat a heavy skillet over medium to low heat. Butter one side of two slices of bread, then turn inward. Flip over in pan, add bread slices and cook for 5 to 7 minutes or until cheese begins to melt and bread is lightly toasted. Place 3 ounces of cheese and 5 ounces of ham on top of a slice. Remove half of the bread from the pan, place them on a cutting board and repeat with the remaining breads.

The sandwich is completed by adding the cheese side of the bread, greens, and cranberry sauce to the side of the ham. To serve, cut the dish in half. It is best when it’s hot and melted!
