Are Carbon Hardtails Worth The Expense?

Without a rear suspension to ease off-road, the frame material and layout become an important consideration. Different materials and tube sizes will absorb impacts from different terrain, which can increase or decrease your driving comfort.
The carbon can be tuned to effectively absorb vibrations while being light and stiff when cornering or on the accelerator. However, carbon is more expensive and regular carbon models can be over-engineered and have a rough ride quality.
Steel prides itself on its place in the hardtail community. The well-made steel frame is sturdy, comfortable, and much more affordable. This comes with a weight penalty, as steel is relatively heavy.
In the past, aluminum has had a reputation for being too hard and harsh. However, modern production methods have greatly improved the compliance of aluminum. It is also lighter than steel and very affordable.
