Riding a mountain bike can be enjoyed by all, not just by daredevils who like to ride down mountains. Mountain biking can be divided into two disciplines: sport and recreation, on the more recreational and extreme side it can also be challenging.
Many bike manufacturers classify their bikes according to the following cycling styles to help you decide which bike is best for you. But remember, just because a bike is designed for a certain riding style doesn’t mean that’s the only way to use it.
Mountain biking:
This is arguably the most popular style of mountain biking as the genre is not rooted in any specific type of racing. If you enjoy meeting friends at local trailheads and doing a mix of hiking and descending, then you’ll love trail running. Trail mountain bikes value fun, efficiency, downhill ability, and reasonable overall weight. Cross-country mountain biking:
This style of riding typically involves riding fast, with an emphasis on climbing ability. Bicycles tend to focus on lightness and efficiency, which also makes them particularly suitable for long-distance travel. These bikes could be perfect if you plan to compete or want a faster race on your local roads.

Think of all-mountain/enduro riding like trail riding for climbing and descending.
This style of riding includes steeper climbs and longer, more technical descents, both man made and natural. Mountain/enduro bikes are designed to perform well on steep descents while being light and nimble enough to pedal uphill.
The term enduro comes from the world of motorcycle racing and describes a competition consisting of timed downhill stages and untimed uphill stages. The winner is the person who achieves the fastest total time. Enduro has become very popular and the term is now often used interchangeably with other sports, whether you race or not.
Downhill/park mountain biking:

This type of riding mainly takes place in bike parks with ski lifts (usually ski resorts in the warmer months). They ride large, sturdy motorcycles and wear full-face helmets and bulletproof vests. The bike’s components are more durable, it has fewer gears, and it has more suspension travel. All this will help you overcome jumps, ledges, rock gardens and wooden slopes. It’s always downhill so you don’t have to pedal as much, but it’s an intense workout as you have to constantly react to rapidly approaching terrain
Fat tire Mountain bike:

Something with giant tires that can roll around obstacles. Fat tire bikes have tires that are at least 3.7 inches wide (sometimes 5 inches or more). It provides excellent traction even on snow and sand. Fat tire cycling is not limited to snow and sandy conditions.
Some riders use these bikes on hiking trails. Fat tire bikes are a great choice for beginner mountain bikers as they are easier to handle on rough terrain.
