| History/ Background | The Redcap Oranda is a native Chinese goldfish imported from China to Japan sometime during the late 1950s and the early 1960s. It is not known how they came to exist. The Redcap Oranda is widely known today and those that are currently distributed are mostly produced in Japan. |
| Features | The Redcap Oranda develops a red lump on its head and the rest is white in color, a color which is favored by the Japanese. It is a variety of the Oranda-type goldfish. Its sophisticated body color reminds us of Japanese cranes, therefore they are named ‘Tanchou’ (‘crane’) in Japan (it is called ‘Koutou’ (Red Head) in China and ‘Redcap Oranda’ in English). |
